The series spurred the Manhattan District Attorney to re-examine the convictions of two men who were found guilty of Malcolm X’s murder. Following the documentary's release, the case was reopened, key evidence was revealed to have been withheld, and in November 2021, both Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam were exonerated after spending more than 50 years in prison.
